The Haast area is comprised of small settlements including the township, Haast Junction, Haast Beach, Okuru. Hannahs Clearing, Neils Beach and Jackson Bay.
Local Services in the Haast township include two general stores, two service stations and a mechanic workshop, two bars/restaurants, a cafe and a gift shop.
Take a rest from exploring and refuel by enjoying the local cuisine. Haast is famous for its seafood. We would recommend sampling whitebait and crayfish or ordering the classic fish and chips.

If you’re a keen hunter or fisherman just ask any of the locals for recommendations. If you would like to take it to the next level, book a heli-trip with a group of friends to some of the best spots.
The Roar hunting period runs for approximately four weeks across March and April. Apply for your hunting block at DOC online by the end of September. Apply Online
Whitebait season now runs from 1st September to 30th October. There is plenty of space for everyone, just take your pick from the Haast, Waiatoto, Turnbull, Arawhata or Okuru rivers.
The annual Haast Whitebait Festival held every October is a great day out for the whole family, with a wide range of stalls including food, gifts, crafts, artisan goods, along with family activities for all and our famous whitebait patty cook-off! The festival is followed by an R18 evening event at the Frontier Bar & Restaurant where everyone can enjoy drinks, food, and live entertainment.
